A methodology, endeavour, or theory is normative when it is prescriptive and its prescriptions are based on a set of broadly applicable and highly defensible norms applied to a representation of the decision-maker's perception of the decision at hand (eg, decision analysis). The norms in a normative methodology constitute one or more action axioms.
