Strategy for exploiting a new metals technology

For a pre-revenue venture-funded metals technology company, I helped develop a strategy for exploiting their patented technology, conducting an analysis of the various market opportunities, all differing in terms of quality requirements, margin, market growth and existing competition. I identified the metals and markets to focus on, and brought alignment and clarity to the company regarding the R&D hurdles they must overcome.

 

Value based management in electronics

I led a team of analysts, developing a template model and consolidating the financial analysis of the components businesses of a major electronics company, to gain insight into the sources of value and risk in the organisation. This led to the development of a new strategy for two key businesses and follow-on work to introduce value-based management into all the business units.

 

Understanding the real value of a corporate cost centre

I brought alignment to the IT arm of a leading chemical company deciding on the future of an overseas programming and support centre. Simple economics favoured shutting the facility down. However, putting costs and probabilities to the potential large impacts on the company’s HR strategy and its ability to respond to a business discontinuity led to an alternative valued at $60 million more than shutting down.

For the world’s largest railway network, I analysed the business potential of a planned network upgrade and recommended innovative approaches to financing.

For a major Indian engineering company, I helped the management understand their opportunities in the export market and the steps they must take to achieve success.
