Decision theory is an axiomatic system for representing decision problems and deducing recommendations for action. Decision theory is a decision method that assumes the axioms of both logic and probability theory and augments them with a set of axioms about preferences (utility theory). Decision analysis is based on decision theory, much like engineering is based on physics or medicine is based on biology.
